Drexler mentions that it appears to be progressing at the speed of government. I would expect results in fifteen to twenty years, then.

Indeed, but at least it's something. If they can demonstrate a convincing proof of principle it could start the ball rolling for the rest of industry and public research to pick up the slack.

On January 1st it was announced that the DOE would be funding Drexler's APM proposal http://www.foresight.org/nanodot/?p=7179
